Michael Dougherty, CEO and Co-Founder Remix AI A free-to-use app for exploring creativity with AI. The app allows users to create, share and inspire in a community full of artists and creative minds. Tell us about your journey in technology. I have always been passionate about innovative platforms that combine new platforms and innovative technologies with creativity, media and music. I started working for one of the early digital music platforms when the internet was just taking off. We have created the first global platform for mobile music downloads. It was a new concept, we built a huge catalog including licensing, and it was acquired by Nokia who needed to compete with iTunes.
From there I joined Tellme Networks, a company started by Hungary Telemarketing Data Netscape and Microsoft engineers that developed the first consumer voice platform for speech recognition. Tellme Networks is a forerunner of what we see in AI platforms today, combining machine learning speech models, large data sets to help train and tune these engines, and users using these powerful tools. Design to help users enjoy using technologies. Tellme was acquired by Microsoft, and we encouraged the creation of another company like Siri, which was eventually acquired by Apple to compete with Tellme and Microsoft. Next, I co-founded a company in the audio space called Jelly. We've built the largest audio advertising platform for radio.
The company was eventually acquired by iHeartMedia, America's largest radio company. Big companies need to use new technologies to develop and grow their businesses—identifying these technologies early and quickly developing them into something special is my passion. When did you first realize you had a business problem? I have always been optimistic about the potential that technology can do for our society. I grew up in the PC era, started my career at the dawn of the Internet, and co-founded my first company at the dawn of the mobile revolution. Throughout these stages, I am excited to see how we can all contribute to the inflection points that have shaped our world.
